egyptology

The alarm just went off. I woke up an hour ago, and i slept 5 hours prior to that. Somehow i just can’t seem to get a good sleep, but well i don’t think sleep is priority right now. Anyways, since i haven’t blogged for ages and ages, i’m not sure if i have introduced my two very lovely housemates, as of Feb’09, on this blog! I should right, since i would probably be mentioning them from time to time,  it would be nice to put the names to a face, that’s if you haven’t facebooked me already ;)

edit,

**haha oops i obviously don’t read my own posts very much, cos i just realised they have been introduced already earlier on! LOL. Well, this is a reacquaintance post then :)

Re-Introducing! Jas (middle) and Sfee (far right)

n502351517_2263925_4695740It was very windy, and we don’t do this often enough. haha

This was taken some time back at St Kilda’s, on a very cold, wet and windy night when Sfee wanted to go for some salsa thing, and we tagged along! The salsa affair didn’t work out, but everything else from the lovely fish n chips dinner to the warm mug of hot choc made things right :) Now why do i have such a vivid memory of something that happened so long ago! I think it’s cos i really haven’t been out much. Ohwells, nothing much i can do about that. I got a long list of things to do right now, and none of them includes having fun -_-

Well, a mini shoutout to my 2 brisy girls in sg right now, eat your fill! :)

Okies, No. 1 and No. 2 on that list right now would be to do the laundry and make some breakfast, respectively.

Till later,
lish.

I’M BACK! FROM OUTERSPACE!

HOLA AMIGOS, ITS BEEN AWHILE.

I wonder if anyone still reads this dead ol’ blog. I’ve abandoned it without notice for a period of time, and well, i think my blogging inspiration is back on track!! How ironic, that i should choose my MOST busy school period to start blogging again. I guess I’m hoping to transfer the writing flow from wordpress to word doc every now and then.

In a blink on an eye, I’m about 11 weeks into my second semester in Uni, and boy has it been a breeze. Okay no, that was a joke. It hasn’t been particularly easy, but i feel quite lucky this sem to have made some good decisions about subject selections. The essays may be killers, but i really enjoy the lessons, so much so  i try my best to make it for every lect/tute (except for one, where i ceased lecture appearance since week 4).

School aside, the new house has been good! It wasn’t very so when we first arrived, eg, grimy walls and toilet, oily kitchenette and a horrific smell from the laundry room, were just some of the headaches we had to deal with for the first two weeks of our arrival. Oh what was even scarier was the stains (i shall be less descriptive here) left behind on the mattresses provided. It was really quite something. Getting a mattress of my own was top priority, no doubt about that!

Anyways, here’s a couple of pictures of my room which i took awhile back!

room1

It has since been re-arranged and 10X more messy, so yeah.

Oh yes, one of the highlights this year for me in melb was the girls coming down during easter break! Reet nearly died on me, she said it was so cold, her toes were coming off, but it didn’t! So i think she was lying. We brought them for a comedy night (which wasn’t very funny), camberwell, boat riding at Kew etcc. This post is really damn lag ah, one month overdue!

Breakfast at Mart 130. YUMS!

4

Dinner at Bimbos. Soon please!

3

Flinders Station, i think we were headed to Kew

2

Evidence of boat-rowing. Wyn refused at first, thinking we were going to bring her on some extreme sports rigorous rowing.

1

Before comedy night, which was anything but a laugh.

Even though i’m a month late, i hope you girls had good fun, and brought back with you lots of memories+laughter.

__

Die, its 2.02pm, and even though i would love to make this an epic-ly LONG post,  5 essays await, and the first and most torturous one ( i think), i’m attempting now. I think its time to get serious and really start getting an outline out.

About slightly 3.5 weeks more before i’m done with sem 1. Woweee!

Will blog again soon, PROMISE!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEETS!

Dear Alicia,

Guess what? It’s your special day once again! HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I know I insisted asking you to log on into your wordpress, so this message is not a surprise, but still :)

Anyway, we’re all prepping ourselves up now for dinner and I am excited about the menu later on! Although I know you secretly dread this day because it means adding one more year to your age, I still wanna say that you still look fabulous! heheheh :)

Thank you for all the wonderful memories and being an awesome friend! Lunch was good, I know dinner will be awesome too!

LOVE YOU LOADS LISHTANYUMEI!!!!!

Yours truly,
Gracie

saying goodbye is hard to do

Things are pretty solemn at home now. The weather is kickass awesome for a nap, but i cant and have refused to sleep, for fear that i’ll be starry starry eyed in the plane tonight. My grandma and aunt have called me twice respectively to ask about my flight and packing prep for leaving :(

Updates soon from Melb, where i’ll be reunited with the roomies and living in a new home! I should muster a bit more excitement! haha. To the people who matter, msg me ur addy if you’ll like a card, or add me on skype! i think the id is lish.87.

In less sombre news, MY DARLING BESTIE GOT ACCEPTED INTO THE UK UNI OF HER CHOICE! CONGRATS!

How awesome is that really!!!! I knew you had what it takes hun, don’t think so much, just go do! You were 100 times more decisive about doing that giant tattoo of yours than considering the appli to the uni. HAHA and they can both be compared cos its a pretty permanent decision ohkay. I’m really excited for you, your irish boy might come true after all :)

Alrighty, i’ll leave you girls a pic of my 2 roomies.

I’ll miss my bed and all of you so so much.

you know

Mood swings aside, i think i’m really feeling sians about leaving. And stressed too, so stressed that i’m having a bad breakout as i type. Stressed about forgetting to pack smth in, the luggage tipping the scales, the horrid timetable (which includes 3X 9am classes, shoot me), not spending enough time with the people i love and as selfish and ironic as this sounds, not having enough alone time.

Our drama queen is leaving today, and although i’l be seeing her in about 2 weeks, i think i’m going to miss her constant ramblings about everything and anything. So long, farewell, its time to say goodbye!

Packing updates!

I’ve packed one small luggage already, and i’ve put in my baby pillows n bolster, cos i’m so worried i’ll forget them! (the horrors). I made a list of the remaining items to pack, and i can only shake my head and pray that it all fits, and the handle don’t break for the 3rd time. I don’t know how its going to work, but it will somehow!

Who would have thought time would fly by so quick, and i’m only left with 3 days in sunny sg! :(

young and sweet, only seventeen

Sorry I’ve been blogging so little lately, i just concluded a 3-day temp job at Ang Mo Kio NCS Hub. Truth be told, i was literally being paid to do nothing. I took 2 hour lunch breaks where i finished half of Bourdain’s ‘the nasty bits’, and would have probably stayed longer if i didn’t have the nagging feeling of guilt. Simple job, just some admin stuff and i taught my manager video conferencing via skype. We also discussed australia and the education system there during extended coffee breaks. I’m surprised that i actually had no problem at all to wake up at 7am. I thought i would be grumpy and miserable, but i was actually up and ready to go before the alarm went off. s h o c k in g s t u f f .

The nasty bits is really such an amazing book, Bourdain’s ability to describe in SUCH colourful and spirited language is just captivating. I did not want to stop reading, alas 2 hour breaks would certainly be quite frowned upon. Cannot push it. i will share share when i finish the book!

Speaking of amazing, did anyone catch the men’s semis of verdasco and nadal yesterday? OMG IT WAS SUPERB. Nothing like i’ve ever seen before, the full 5 hours and 14 mins of it was just breathtaking. Their atheletism really commendable and i felt that should have been the finals. I can’t imagine the finals being of a higher standard than that really. I watched the until the 3rd set, and then went out for dinner, came back, and they were still at it. Unbelievable stuff.

Well, I’ve got 3 weeks left. SO FAST! I’ve been very very excited to go back, but somehow as the dates get closer, i’ve been having a bit of mixed feelings. I just got so darn comfortable in my humble abode, and now i have to transport myself 1084923820miles away from my friends, parents and familiarity of things. Ohwells.

Time for a short nap before i catch JJ at novena, maybe for the last time in a long while! :(

HAPPY (NIU) YEAR

Me: Papa you pick me in half an hour i go pluck my eyebrows ok?
P: okok no probs
half an hour later…
P: woah your eyebrows look so nice now ah, very neat and all..
Me: ermm. all the shops closed so i couldnt do it anywhere, in the end i just walk around
P: oh.

_

I painstakingly decided to try smth diff with my eye makeup tonight, armed with white glitter liner and all, and i thought a did a pretty decent job, until my niece, looking quite intensely at me said,

“why your eyes so black ah”

_

2 lessons learnt today. NEVER attempt to carry out some facial grooming of sorts the day before CNY because no shops will be open! At least not in novena anyway. Only 2 manicure shops were open, but they didnt offer eyebrow trimming, and they were very very busy. Secondly, kids are very honest, sometimes too honest. Haha.

How does one try to lose some weight during CNY? I think its impossible really. Reunion dinner, followed by lunches at respective families, and then more visitings. FOOD FOOD FOOD. I’m going to stay away from the tarts and the ba kwa, which i love the most, but i have to regain my pride (shed some fat) before i head back to melbourne, where my fridge will be stocked with tim tams and lemon fingers. YUMS!

I’ve got EXACTLY 4 weeks before i head back to melbourne. Back to a new crib, and once again i’ve to adjust to not seeing my family, to a new environment, to erratic weather and to writing dreadful essays. The new year brings new adventures yeah!

Dexter dexter awaits. I’m abso addicted to watching the most morbid series to date. I think he’s the cause of my insomniac tendencies.

theatre of dreams

I think man united can do it! VIDIC, my homeboy was shweeeeeet yesterday!

I’m so broke, someone suggested i look for a job at macs. haha sounds qute sad ah. I think maybe i get slightly more allowance than they pay at macs, so that wont do. And smelling of french fries everyday, i don’t think i could take it. OHWELLS, 6 more weeks to melb, can’t wait!

In the meantime, i’m going to be upbeat about my last few weeks here, whether i get a job or not, i’ll try to make the most of it.

1. Spend time with the folks
2. Hang around novena and chill more
3. Learn to make chinese carrot cake
4. Mambo with the girls
5. Alter and dryclean

POSITIVITY is the way to go! Maybe if i keep telling myself that, i won’t feel so useless. haha.

Ticket is booked for 23rd Feb. This time around, i’ve got a 40kg allowance, and i doubt i’m even going to bring that much.

The girls which makes me hahahahappie!

We had a chocolate buffet at the Fullerton.

I’m still thinking about the passionfruit chocolate slice which was purrrrfect.

I met one of my dad’s client from sydney over drinks at new asia bar and learnt that when he doesn’t spend his time working, he’s on the race tracks vrooom vrooming. Quite cool ah, i’ve never met such an avid racer before, and he invited me to watch his race when he comes down to melb! His eyes lit up when we talked about cars and bikes, kinda like when we girls start talking about shoes and boys.

Yesterday, i also realised that i don’t like foie gras (goose liver) all that much, unless its pâté-d. YUMMY korean lunch tmr, meeting the roomies at night and mambo on wed, can’t wait! Now, will someone please drop money on the floor so that i can pick it up! haha okay, i’m kidding (or maybe not!)

Alrighty, time for dinner. I see really pretty lights shining from where my old house used to be.

spare me

You know, if there is one pertinent reason to accelerate my yearning to head back to melbourne, it would be my parents. I love them, but sometimes, i could strangle them as well. ARGH. My mother, the resident nagger, can seriously drive me up mount everest with her constant naggings over the most basic things, i shall spare you the nitty gritty :(

I think maybe i’m grumpy cos i really MISS NANDOS AND KIM CHI TRAY. Quite badly i tell you.

Delish

Has a new found appreciation for early mornings and a comforting cup of coffee.
